4 Tips to Writing a CDL Driver Job Ad That Will Convert

How long would your list be if you were to tally up all of the places your team has posted a CDL driver job advertisement? From traditional job posting sites like Indeed and Monster to social media and, of course, your website, your list is probably quite long. But how many of those job listings are actually converting?

While ensuring your job postings are displayed in the right places is one part of the equation, taking care that the post itself is written in a way guaranteed to convert is crucial. Drivers looking for a new position will come across dozens of job postings exactly like yours while on their job hunt – what is going to make yours stand out from the crowd?

Here are a few pro tips to keep in mind when writing a driver job ad that will convert:

  1. Write to attract the drivers you want. Today’s trucking industry is incredibly competitive, and carriers across the board are looking for the best of the best when it comes to finding quality, qualified drivers. Cater your job descriptions to the exact drivers you want to hire. Making a job sound top-of-the-line means you’ll attract more top-of-the-line applicants.
  2. Cut the fluff. It can be tempting to wax poetic in a job advertisement about the opportunity, the company, and just how exciting the industry is. While it’s great to be enthusiastic about the position, now is not the time to be fluffy with words. What does the driver NEED to know? What is most important to the applicant? Focus on these critical areas to keep your job ad short and to the point.
  3. Focus on the ‘why,’ not just the ‘what.’ One of the biggest mistakes that driver recruiters often make when creating job ads is making them too clinical and, for lack of a better word, boring. Most CDL driver job descriptions outline the same type of work. Why should a driver focus on your ad in particular? Focus on the ‘why’ and not just the ‘what’ to break through the noise.
  4. Give drivers a clear call to action. Once a driver reads through your job ad, what should they do next? A clear CTA – call this number, click here to apply, etc. – can help spur drivers into action and drive speed-to-hire. After all, reading a job ad is one thing, but taking action on it is what creates applicants. Make sure every job advertisement (yes, even the ones on your website) has a clear CTA to prompt the reader to take action.
