Question: How would you lead a conversation where the driver wants a local and home daily position while your company is focused on Regional?
Answer: Have a conversation with the driver about what they are doing today and what has them looking. Find the problem the driver is having. Can you solve the problem with what your company has to offer?
If you can, then offer the position and help the driver through the onboarding process. If you can’t, then move on to allow the driver to find what they are looking for.
Question: What are your suggestions for a company that is struggling to be competitive?
Answer: Use data to figure out what areas of your package might need to be updated in order to be more competitive. Pay, hometime, and culture are the core areas. Start with those. Question: How can you convert Regional positions to OTR?
Answer: It’s about finding something that will help the driver see the positive in how this change will help them. Maybe they are short on money and OTR pays more, maybe they are only getting home for a 34 hour reset and that time at home doesn’t feel as valuable as 3-4 days at home if he/she would stay out longer. These conversations show you care about what is most important to the driver.
Question: Does this apply to all drivers, regardless of their nationality? For instance, we are a multilingual company and advise drivers on how we can start the application for them via phone. I've noticed that people from different countries have different ways of comprehending/receiving information and sharing their personal information via phone.
Answer: Yes. If they are hesitant to share their information over the phone, you can still have them complete it with a mobile application. Building trust with the driver will help encourage them to do it with you over the phone. People want to trust before sharing sensitive information.
Question: Which social media platform do you find is the most valuable when recruiting drivers?
Answer: Facebook and YouTube are beneficial channels, however, it’s difficult to make a proper recommendation without first having a discussion about your company’s goals.
